Focus on what you can do

Focus on what you can do

Last year I hurt my lower back and as a result, there are certain tasks that I struggle to do independently.  Sometimes this really annoys me but instead of dwelling on what I “can’t” do, I have to focus on what I “can” do.

Friends and family are brilliant at bridging the gap but they aren’t mindreaders so I need to be courageous and ask them to help out eg carrying loads of washing from upstairs to downstairs.  Of course, there are many ways to work around problems eg instead of trudging around the supermarket with a heavy trolley of groceries, I can open the Tesco grocery app, scroll down my favourites and a few days later, the groceries arrive on the doorstep carried into the house by my trusty husband.

There are many things that I can still do and I need to redirect my focus on these activities which will bring pleasure to me and to others.  Writing blogs is one of these activities.  Over three years ago, I set up my “Lynda’s Rambles” blog and at the start, I was full of enthusiasm for it and wrote lots of blogs.  Inspiration was no problem and I enjoyed the writing/publishing process as well as the feedback I would get from readers.  But last year, my enthusiasm for blogging waned and then I hurt my back which resulted in only three blogs getting written in 2024.

At the start of 2025, I’m at a crossroads.  Are my blogging days over and should I instead, focus my attention on other activities?  Or should I focus on what I can do and kickstart my blog?

I’d love to know what you think so please write your thoughts in the comments section below.

As you say, focus on what you can do. And if something inspires you to write an occasional blog, then write it. Don’t force yourself. You should enjoy it more and maybe inspire someone else.

  2. What you can certainly still do is write blogs Lynda. That is shown by your ability to write with such clarity and self perception as you have done with this blog and all blogs that you have written in the past.

Your blogging is potentially a win win for yourself and for the readers you share your writing with as you get the chance to express yourself creatively and your readers get to enjoy your clear, honest and informative blogs.

If you can enjoy writing them do what you can do but if you don’t, then don’t. Focus on other things instead that bring you joy.

S, a fan of your rambles on paper and on foot. 💕

  4. Lynda great blog. Do what makes you feel good and what you can. Set small targets and before you know it you’ve achieved more than you realise. Good luck!
