The Christmas Craft Fair

Lurgan’s Brownlow House is the place to be on Saturday 22nd November from 10am to 3pm. It’s the impressive venue for a Christmas Craft Fair which is run by Action Cancer. Lots of talented crafters will be there showcasing their products including a group of amazing ladies with a diagnosis of secondary breast cancer who are raising funds for Breast Cancer Now.

“We met through a support group in Belfast which is run by Breast Cancer Now specifically for ladies with a diagnosis of secondary breast cancer,” explains Carol Dixon, one of the group members. “The group is invaluable as we are able to share experiences about treatments and side effects as well as encourage each other to live well on our cancer journey. We wanted to give something back to Breast Cancer Now and the idea of crafting seemed like a good one. As a result, we have been busy knitting, crocheting, sewing, painting and doing lots of other crafts.”

What is secondary breast cancer?

Secondary breast cancer occurs when breast cancer cells spread from the primary cancer in the breast to other parts of the body such as the liver, lungs, brain or bones. Breast cancer cells can spread through the lymphatic system or the blood stream. Secondary breast cancer can be treated, but it can’t be cured. Treatment aims to control the cancer, relieve any symptoms, and maintain health, wellbeing and a good quality of life for as long as possible.

“Over the last few months, we have been beavering away on our crafts and to be honest, it’s been a great distraction from our treatments and scans,” continues Carol. “Friends and family have helped out too and we really appreciate their support. All we need now is for people to turn up at Brownlow House on Saturday 22nd November and hopefully buy our goodies.”

Don’t worry if you aren’t able to attend the craft fair, you can still support these amazing brave ladies with a donation to Breast Cancer Now on their Just Giving page. Just click on the button below.
