With the majestic Mourne Mountains sweeping down to the sea, the promenade at the County Down town of Newcastle is a favourite seaside walk for me all year around.
The starting point is the car park beside the Percy French Restaurant. Head towards the sea where you will see the start of the promenade to your right. Then simply walk keeping the sea on your left until you pass Soak Seaweed Baths and then on to Newcastle Harbour. If you need a coffee stop there, you could visit Olive Bizarre or South Prom Brew Bar.
Once refreshed, retrace your steps and head back to the car park at the Percy French Restaurant.

Key Facts
- The path is flat but some of the route includes the narrow footpath beside the main road towards Kilkeel.
- There are lots of seats and picnic tables along the way to rest on or simply take a few minutes to enjoy the sea air while reading a book.
- The total walk distance is 3 miles and takes less than an hour.
- The car park is free.
What not to miss
- Deviate from the main promenade down on to the beach to collect some shells or have a paddle if the tide is in.
- A flat white coffee (pictured above) from the Railway Street Brew Bar which is across the road from the Percy French Restaurant
